Press Release

Our fifth edition of the ‘t-10’ series will showcase for the first time at our gallery the work of Czech artist Jiří Mayer (Třebíč, 1990), presenting a collection of small format works on canvas, featuring the artists signature pixelated imagery.

“My art is a dialogue between the past and the present, bridging the gap between childhood and adulthood.

Through my work, I aim to transport viewers back to their childhood. The main subjects of my pieces are animals, which I portray using a childlike and naive style. To achieve this, I utilize Windows Paint - a “modern” technology that has become a relic of the past.

Using Windows Paint allows me to create an unbiased style that reminds viewers of aesthetics they may admire, while simultaneously evoking a sense of nostalgia for generations familiar with this “modern technological age”. Though Windows Paint may have faded from relevance, it still exists on your computers. The pixelation of lines and surfaces that results from zooming in creates an impression of uncertainty and randomness reminiscent of children’s drawings. It is through this intentional blurring of lines and shapes that I capture the essence of a child’s fresh gaze in my paintings.

My fascination with unbiased, naive children’s drawings and this old school program is the foundation of my artistic inspiration.”
