Press Release

Cadogan Gallery is delighted to present ‘Vattendroppar’, a new exhibition by Andreas Diaz Andersson, opening on Tuesday 9 April. This will be the Mexican-Swedish artist’s second solo show with Cadogan and his first in our Milan gallery.

‘Vattendroppar’, Swedish for water droplets, is a new body of thread pieces in which the circle and concentric circles are the predominant theme. Diaz Andersson manages to create shimmering, almost organic circular forms out of small straight lines. This contrast of a flowing, naturalistic visual language coming from this geometric, ordered formalism is what Diaz Andersson strives to achieve. The waves that form when something is dropped into water are immediate and autonomous but they resolve into a geometry that is found throughout nature.

Concentric circles are used as a pictorial device in these new pieces by Diaz Andersson; the tonalities of the works presented are pared back, allowing the light in the gallery to let the compositions flow and shimmer.

The artist will also present a sound installation that will play in the gallery as a companion to the thread paintings on display.
