David Zwirner is pleased to present French Painting, an exhibition of new paintings by Belgian artist Michaël Borremans. _French Painting i_s the artist’s ninth solo presentation with David Zwirner and his first at the Paris gallery, marking his first solo show in France in twenty years, following The Good Ingredients at La Maison Rouge–Fondation Antoine de Galbert in 2006. Recent institutional presentations include a retrospective of twenty years of painting, titled A Confrontation at the Zoo, __at the Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar, Netherlands (2024–25) and The Promise at Prada Rong Zhai, Shanghai (2024).

About the Artist

Michaël Borremans was born in 1963 in Geraardsbergen, Belgium. In 1996, he received his M.F.A. from Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst, Campus St. Lucas, in Ghent. David Zwirner has represented the artist’s works since 2001. Previous solo exhibitions at the gallery include Black Mould, London, 2015, The Devil’s Dress, New York, 2011, Taking Turns, New York, 2009, Horse Hunting, New York, 2006, and Trickland, New York, 2003.

Since opening its doors in 1993, David Zwirner has been home to innovative, singular, and pioneering exhibitions across a variety of media and genres. The gallery has helped foster the careers of some of the most influential artists working today, and has maintained long-term representation of a wide-ranging, international group of artists and estates. Based in New York with spaces in Chelsea and the Upper East Side, David Zwirner expanded to Europe in 2012 with a gallery in an eighteenth-century Georgian townhouse in London’s Mayfair district, and opened its first gallery in Asia in January 2018 in Central Hong Kong.
