Gajah Gallery is delighted to participate in the second edition of ART SG - Southeast Asia’s largest art fair.
The Gallery will showcase a diverse array of the works by acclaimed artists from Southeast Asia, along with new three-dimensional works created in collaboration with Yogya Art Lab (YAL). One of Singapore’s veteran sculptors, Han Sai Por will display a one metre-high bronze work with a unique jade patina. She continues her fascination with natural, organic forms, emphasising their elegance and balance.
Suzann Victor, another renowned Singaporean artist, unveils her latest addition to her signature fresnel lenses series, in which she rematerializes colonial-era, ethnographic postcards of Southeast Asia. Enclosing these images behind a screen of lenses, she creates a complex, hand-painted tableaux that generates spaces of pictorial privacy and self-mapping for the colonised subject.
Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera (BenCab) is exhibiting with Gajah Gallery for the first time, unveiling his months-long collaboration with artisans at YAL. BenCab and YAL have produced a bronze sculpture of the artist’s signature, decades-long muse: Sabel. Encountering a scavenger in the 1960s, the artist went on to sketch and paint her for decades—her form constantly evolving, often becoming abstract. His collaboration with YAL has only opened up more possibilities for the intricacies of her lines and shape.
Several paintings by the late I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih (Murni) will also be on display, featuring themes that centre female sexuality and desire. The Gallery continues its representation of the pioneering artist–who, almost two decades after death, has finally been gaining the institutional recognition she deserves. Last year, the Tate acquired her work. Currently, her works are part of the 13th Taipei Biennial; and later this year, she will be featured in the 24th Biennale of Sydney.
Other artists include Charlie Co, Erizal As, Jane Lee, Jemana Murti, Kayleigh Goh, Leslie de Chavez, Mangu Putra, Ridho Rizki, Rosit Mulyadi, Rudi Mantofani, Uji “Hahan” Handoko Eko Saputro, Yeo Siew Hua, Yunizar, and Yusra Martunus. Catch us at Booth BD09.
