Press Release
In May 2012 Jason Lim attended a ceramics residency at FuPing Pottery Art Village, near Xi'An, China, together with 20 other Southeast Asian artists. The resulting diverse collection of series of works can be viewed at F.L.I.C.A.M. (FuLe International Ceramic Art Museum), FuPing extraordinary legacy of the many residencies the centre hosts regularly. Extensive choice of materials and glazes, large scale equipment and the possibilities of the space allowed Lim’s contemporary art practice combined with his Chinese cultural heritage to undoubtedly find a fertile ground where to flourish with remarkably novel creations.

As the most substantial works created during the residency became part of the permanent exhibition at F.L.I.C.A.M., the legacy left from them in Lim stayed on dormant until the early 2013 campaign to protect the dragon kilns of Jalan Bahar truly awoke again the previous year’s experience with the wood kilns, the profound effect of the residency on his practice and his urge to retrieve the same spirit in his home land. This exhibition is therefore borne out of that urge and the subsequent need to create works that could continue both series and allow them to be appreciated within his domestic context.
About the Artist

Regarded as Singapores next master ceramist, Jason Lims artistic growth over the past decade has been remarkable. Also a performance artist, Jason combines skilled craftsmanship in sculpting with influences from performance art. The result is ceramic pieces that go beyond being merely objects of beauty, to subjects that provoke thought and interaction with the viewer.
