Galeria Nara Roesler invites for the opening of Milton Machado's exhibition Mão Pesada on August 24, at 11 a.m.

The show includes approximately 40 drawings created between 1970 and 2013, plus a selection of award-winning videos by the artist. Although the production of Milton Machado is notably multidisciplinary, his drawing is especially highlighted in this exhibition. Milton creates designs and articulates narratives that seem logical, but which are, in fact, fictional and unrealistic. His storytelling quality originates characters and parallel worlds stubbornly conceptualized and traced.

The comic book A Esperança no Porvir, confiscated by agents of the military dictatorship in 1973, will be relaunched in the exhibition. In partnership with Associação para o Patronato Contemporâneo (APC) and Cosac Naify publishing, Galeria Nara Roesler promotes the launch of the book História do Futuro, by Milton Machado, in collaboration with Guilherme Bueno and Tania Rivera, on a date to be announced.
About the Artist

Milton Machado began his career as an artist during the Brazilian military dictatorship, when he made drawings based on his background in architecture, creating pieces that seemed logical at first sight, but were in fact subtly irrational and unfeasible. Throughout the following decades, Machado progressively expanded his practice and increased the scale of his production to include objects, sculptures, videos, photography and large installations, all looking at a pivotal theme which explores tensions generated by artworks which challenge and uproot factuality.
