Galería RGR, founded in Venezuela in 2012 and set up in Mexico City in 2018, internationally promotes contemporary artists from across the globe, both established and emergent, whose practices and research point towards the distinct futures offered by abstractionism.
Read MoreThe general line of the gallery is abstract art, understood as a base that unites various artistic fields and lines of thought. Having begun with the representation of key Venezuelan artists of the modern-contemporary art juncture, such as Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Rafael Soto, the evolution of the gallery has meant a continuous search of fruitful intersections between the present and the near past beyond geographical limits.
Through its exhibition program, Galería RGR creates critical dialogues around the production of international contemporary art, mainly on the exploration of abstraction as base language, from its roots in the modernist painters and sculptors of the mid-20th century to the most innovative multidisciplinary proposals of our times.
The participatory installation 'Out of Sight' is one of over 70 large-scale projects Art Basel announced for their June fair.
The exhibition is a who's who of the city's artists, with some surprising international inclusions.
A Yang Fudong video featuring K-pop superstar Jackson Wang was also released at the opening on Saturday.
