This is a dictated summary of a story shared with my co-worker about this project at a drinking party.
1. about video works
I think the 2 videos are the front and the back or a coin or an image on a mirror. That is like ‘a gesture of vain tragedy’ and ‘a gesture of vain comedy.’ However, what these gestures reveal is ‘poor imitation’ about those gestures because ‘misery of world’ cannot be testified by misery. If a side dot is put on ‘poor,’ the 2 videos become some ‘shortfall.’ If the side dot is interpreted as the gesture of ‘imitation-gesture,’
it can become not a caricature of an object or a person, but an actual image. In addition, a closeup shot of a face and feet out of a bathtub is a portrait of a person who intervenes this world and is involved in this world. However, this scene is kind of connected with a closeup of ‘a crying face’ at the previous exhibition.
As Der Einzelne, something unspeakable of self-consciousness and narcissism of ‘being - an artist, and living as an artist’ in the world. Though I want to get out of the limit of ‘me-author,’ the truth is delaying the frustration of failing to reach the limit, and frustrating, and making a caricature of it again, and detesting caricatured self- depressed self, and loving.
2. about pictures
I think the way this strange person gets involved in the landscape, rather invades it is more advanced than the previous way tights in rainbow colors tried to compose something. As I express in my own way, just as a figure who get involved in an (nearly) erectile way, watches (because it gets erected, such), penis, it has a disgusting/comic code. Of course, though it is impossible to surely explain why this figure with such a pose, gets involved in such a different landscape- cruise type landscape, it is considered that this inexplicable or decomposable ‘foreignness’ is the keyword of this work. That is, it is estimated that it is neither surrealistic nor unrealistic, but it has power to ask what this world we recognize through involvement/invasion to destroy the reality is.
So, what the videos functioning as a footnote of these pictures show us is so universal question as well as a desperate question, what this world is, what we are donging, from where on earth (author) should start- make it through (slightly) creepy sketches about this world which is inexplicable and unfamiliar.
