This November, New York and Puerto Rico-based artist Angel Otero will present his first exhibition with Hauser & Wirth since joining the gallery in February of this year. Otero will take over the 5th floor of the gallery’s 22nd street location with vibrant new works, continuing his unique exploration of oil paint and its potential to convey memory and history through materiality.
Angel Otero is a Puerto Rican-born painter known for redefining what contemporary art can be through a radical ‘oil skin’ technique. Otero’s innovative process transforms oil paint into sculptural collage that bridges personal history, memory, art history, and the tactile atmosphere of Caribbean life.
