Such is the artworld's recent enthusiasm for figurative painting that one might be forgiven for thinking that this is where all the most interesting moves are being made, but of course this isn't true. The age-old conversation between figuration and abstraction continues - it's all image making with a potential to channel emotion, and in a way it's all storytelling, even when there's no apparent narrative to follow. As Picasso put it 'there's no such thing as figurative and non-figurative art. All things appear to us in the shape of forms... they affect us more or less intensely'.
This winter, Ingleby will present a group exhibition focussing on artists whose work remains committed to the non-representational.
Through her often vibrantly coloured ceramics, paintings, and works on paper, Lubna Chowdhary explores the intersections of culture and identity, personal and collective histories, and traditional and industrial processes.
Founded in 1998, Ingleby maintains an ambitious program of exhibitions and off-site projects by established and emerging artists. Over the past 14 years, it has secured a reputation as one of the country’s leading private galleries, renowned for the quality of its exhibitions and publications. The gallery represents artists of international standing, whilst also introducing and supporting artists at earlier stages in their career. We are pleased to advise public, private and corporate clients about buying art, and in starting, building and maintaining collections.
We partner with the world's leading galleries to showcase their artists, artworks and exhibitions. Vetted by an acclaimed group of industry peers, our gallery membership is by application and invitation only.
