For the final exhibition of the year, Jhana Millers presents Self by Others, a group exhibition, featuring work by Caitlin Devoy, Ayesha Green, Robbie Handcock, Claudia Kogachi, Elisabeth Pointon and Christopher Ulutupu.
Through their work, these six artists consider how they relate to others, and how the world relates to them.
Their works cross cultural, political, gender and sexual boundaries and explore ideas of identity politics, colonisation, race, sexuality, the gaze, family and whānau, assimilation and stereotypes.
The artworks presented are a mixture of painting, sculpture, video, textiles and prints.
The exhibition was originally designed for SPRING1883 and was to be shown at the Hotel Windsor in Melbourne. Due to COVID we were unable to attend SPRING1883 and instead decided to show the work in the gallery.
Jhana Millers Art Gallery was established in 2018 in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington to showcase compelling and innovative contemporary art and promote emerging local talents. Housed in the listed Mibar Building, fitted with large windows and a concrete ceiling, the gallery provides space for solo and curated group exhibitions.
We partner with the world's leading galleries to showcase their artists, artworks and exhibitions. Vetted by an acclaimed group of industry peers, our gallery membership is by application and invitation only.
