Jhana Millers is pleased to present THE BIG THREE, a group exhibition that celebrates an important milestone: three years since establishing the gallery, and the length of our first lease.
The exhibition presents new works, and works not previously exhibited at the gallery before, by our represented artists and invited guests; Harry Culy, Caitlin Devoy, Ayesha Green, Tyne Gordon, Robbie Handcock, Hannah Ireland, Jaime Jenkins, Claudia Kogachi, Caroline McQuarrie, Elisabeth Pointon, Kāryn Taylor, Christopher Ulutupu, Erica van Zon and Denys Watkins.
When Laila O’Brien and I set up the gallery in 2018, we had hoped to fill a gap in Wellington and present art by new and emerging younger artists, alongside those who were more established. Three years down the track, I feel so grateful to represent and work with a group of incredible artists that make challenging, humorous, beautiful and important work.
I have been slowly refining and improving upon what I do here in the gallery space, alongside presenting at the Auckland Art Fair and involving the gallery and artists in a series of collaborative events with other local galleries. I am particularly proud of the recent Face to Face: Portrait Festival and last year’s Fired Up: festival of ceramics.
The support of artists, collectors, family, friends, the wider art community of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington has been truly wonderful and I look forward to the next few years.
