Martin Browne Contemporary is delighted to present HOME, an exhibition of new paintings by award –winning artist, Michael Muir. Michael Muir is known for his contemporary landscapes depicting streetscapes, architecture and plant life that are distinctly Australian.
In Michael Muir’s words, “This body of paintings titled ‘HOME’ explores Sydney based imagery and in a broader context what ‘home’ means to us on an individual level.
The current works that I have been painting continue on my process of reinterpreting the landscape in a simplified manner. Perception and judgement is played out in different areas within the painting whether that is through the application of paint, flattening of the picture plane or the hard edged approach.
In a way I use the landscape and the process in which I paint as a vehicle for personal unravelling. Colour, light and composition continue to be driving forces within the paintings and as the work becomes less abstracted perhaps the narrative content becomes more apparent.”
Life looks good when seen through the paintings of Micahael Muir. Born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 1975, Muir spent his formative years in Southeast Asia before settling in Australia. The painter and avid surfer’s studio is based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where the local street scenes, shop fronts, parks, and pools frequently appear in the artist’s work.
