Press Release

MAKI Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the 20th edition of Art Fair Tokyo with a group presentation of work by Mungo Thomson, Miya Ando, Anne Kagioka Rigoulet, Tomohito Ushiro, and Takuro Tamura.

Mungo Thomson (b. 1969 in Woodland, CA) engages with printed and archival materials as the basis of his conceptual practice, which incisively dissects the anatomy of consumerism and the nature of our collective existence. Miya Ando (b. 1973 in Los Angeles) skillfully fuses the traditional and the contemporary, the industrial and the organic, and East and West to capture the ephemerality of nature through a refined aesthetic sensibility. Anne Kagioka Rigoulet (b. 1987 in Kanagawa) combines traditional mural and oil painting techniques while harnessing the fluid energy of water reflections as a distinctive mode of abstraction. Tomohito Ushiro (b. 1971 in Tokyo) translates iconic images from advertisements and magazine covers into paintings by stripping them down to their most essential visual elements. Takuro Tamura (b. 1989 in Osaka) detaches motifs related to transportation and urban infrastructure from their original functions and recontextualizes them through a simultaneously poetic and critical lens.

We look forward to seeing you at Booth S020!
