Curated by Briony Fer

Coinciding with Frieze London 2026, White Cube Bermondsey presents a major solo exhibition by Gabriel Orozco (b. 1962, Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico).

The exhibition juxtaposes over 100 new and existing works by the artist, including sculpture, painting, photography, assemblage and works on paper, and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the ‘Orozco Garden’, a permanent commission at the South London Gallery, realised in 2016.

It also marks 20 years since Orozco’s inaugural show with the gallery, ‘Twelve Paintings and a Drawing’, which took place at White Cube Mason’s Yard in 2006, and 30 years since his solo exhibition in London at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, presented concurrently with the project ‘Empty Club’ at Artangel.

Structured as a ‘chrono-nautical log’ – a record of observations, associations and historical contingencies – the show is curated by British art historian, critic, and curator Briony Fer, and emerges from the spirit of Orozco’s recent solo show ‘Politécnico Nacional’ at the Museo Jumex in Mexico City (2025). Works function as objects that travel through time, changing meaning as they move between sites, contexts, histories and interpretive systems.

About the Artist

Gabriel Orozco’s diverse practice, which includes sculpture, photography, painting and video, explores philosophical conundrums through random encounters and spatial relationships. Using everyday objects in the contemporary urban environment, Orozco makes visible the poetry of chance connections, whimsy and paradox. He works with found materials or situations—a ball of clay, a deflated football, or an abandoned kite, for example—that are altered and then photographed to create surprising, often humorous scenarios from their simple, quotidian means.

About the Gallery

An international art powerhouse, White Cube was established in 1993 in London by art dealer Jay Jopling. In its space on Duke Street, it served as the early exhibition venue for many now internationally acclaimed British artists, including Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George, Rachel Kneebone and Antony Gormley, who still show with the gallery today.
