Press Release

OMR is pleased to announce Gabriel Rico’s second solo exhibition with the gallery: Monos del Espacio. Comprised of over 30 new and existing artworks, the exhibition brings together free-standing sculptures, wall-based works and a sculptural installation. Following on the artist’s preoccupation with found objects and materials, the works invite the viewer to reflect on the relation between human beings and their natural environment, through the use of neon, ceramic, taxidermy mounts, branches of trees, and even more personal objects from his own past.

About the Artist

Gabriel Rico lives and works in Guadalajara, Mexico. He studied architecture, earning his BA from ITESO in 2004. A self proclaimed ‘ontologist with a heuristic methodology,’ Rico’s work is developed in zone in which one object crisscrosses with another in the inter-objective configuration space. By pairing natural and unnatural objects, Rico creates sculptures and installations that inviteviewers to reflect on the juxtaposition of the very elements that compose them. His work aims to deconstruct and re-contextualise theformulation of the art object to create pieces that fragment the composition of the contemporary human and evidence the geometricimperfection in nature.
