This exhibition centers on the core imagery of ‘moonlight,’ exploring how imagination traverses the boundaries of time, geography, and reality to forge spiritual connections and freedom.

Moonlight is a perpetually projected light that carries imaginings of the other, the distant, the past, and the future—these imaginings transcend the barriers of reality, enabling consciousness to move across distances and establish connections in absence.

Through diverse media—video, installation, painting—artists turn their gaze toward objects beyond direct reach: imagined cities, reconstructed memories, doors to the unknown, moments yet to arrive. Here, creation becomes an act that preserves the possibility of sustained connection with the world and others, even within the constraints of reality.We invite viewers to follow this visa-free moonlight, briefly encountering one another between drifting and dwelling, illuminating each other inpassing.

About the Gallery

Founded in 1996, ShanghART Gallery is one of the first contemporary art galleries established in China. With spaces in Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore, ShanghART has been a driving force of the development of Chinese contemporary art for the past twenty years.
