The Columns Gallery is pleased to present EVA, a solo exhibition by Shavonne Wong. This pioneering media art project introduces Eva, an interactive AI companion who listens, reflects, and evolves through anonymous conversations. As visitors engage with Eva, they become participants in an unfolding narrative that examines themes of trust, identity, and connection in the era of artificial intelligence.
At the heart of the exhibition is Meet Eva Here, an installation that invites visitors to interact with Eva through a chatbot interface. Eva exists in conversation, learning from those who engage with her while reflecting their thoughts and emotions back at them. This work raises questions about the nature of companionship in an age where human and artificial relationships are increasingly intertwined.
The Illusion of Connection examines the way technology shapes human relationships, offering the appearance of constant connectivity while fostering distance. A woman holds a phone over her mouth, her reflection fragmented by text messages like ‘ILY’ and ‘OMG.’ The piece questions whether digital interactions truly fulfill the need for intimacy or merely create the illusion of presence.
The Whirlwind of the Waking Dream captures the disorienting pace of technological change. A woman falls backward through shifting realities, from the familiar comfort of her bedroom into digital landscapes, AI-generated environments, and abstract chaos. The work explores the fluidity of identity and perception in an age where reality itself feels unstable.
The Mirror World presents a figure suspended in an ethereal space, surrounded by mirrors reflecting a different version of reality. The contrast between light and darkness highlights the tension between physical existence and digital representation, questioning what it means to construct an identity in an increasingly virtual world.
Meet Eva Here (The Eva Project) invites visitors to engage directly with Eva, an AI presence designed to hold conversations. As participants interact with her, they contribute to an evolving dialogue on companionship, trust, and the shifting boundaries between human and artificial relationships.
