Press Release

We move through life...perceiving is a composite exhibition featuring abstract paintings, photopaintings, drawings, titles, photography, ceramics, and structures. Simon Morris and David Thomas, who first met in the mid-1990s, have exhibited together across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Germany, and Asia, showcasing their work in museums, galleries, and alternative spaces.

Their art explores painting as a meditation on time, materiality, process, and poetics, celebrating both simplicity and complexity. Their work is deeply informed by Western, Eastern, and local art practices, with a particular focus on abstraction as a contemplative means of reflecting on reality and perception. This exhibition is diverse yet unified, inviting slow, thoughtful viewing—much like a journey through various aspects of life, celebrating both the intimate and the grand. We move through life...perceiving serves a contemplative purpose.
