The collective artist Claire Fontaine takes a position that challenges the art system’s conventions by strongly criticizing the notion of authorship. Claire Fontaine was founded in Paris in 2004 by the Italian theorist Fulvia Carnevale and the British artist James Thornhill, who took the name of a well-known French stationery company. The artist duo use existing forms and fills them with political content giving them the existential use value that she pursues, she transforms familiar images into powerful tools to tackle the deep crisis of the contemporary world.
Claire Fontaine has held solo exhibition at numerous art institutions including Atelier Hermès, Seoul (2024), Hypermaremma (2024), Palazzo Ducale di Genova, Genova (2019), Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin (2017).
