Born to Mexican and Native American parents, Esteban Cabeza de Baca (b.1985) grew up in San Ysidro, one of the largest border towns between the United States and Mexico. He has exhibited at The Dutch Royal Palace, Amsterdam; Fons Welters Gallery, Amsterdam; Gaa Gallery, Provincetown, MA; David Richard Gallery, Sante Fe, NM; Fisher Landau Center for Art, Long Island City, NY; Columbia University, New York. Esteban has attended such residencies as the Drawing Center Open Sessions, the Rijksakademie, Carrizozo AIR, LMCC Workspace Program, the Sharpe-Walentas Residency, and the Byrdcliffe Residency. He is the recipient of the Stokroos Grant, Gamblin painting grant and the Stern fellowship. Esteban holds a BFA from The Cooper Union where he’s also lectured on his work in 2014 and an MFA from Columbia University where he currently teaches painting. He lives and works in Queens, NY.
