Groves lives and works in Melbourne.
Helga Groves' sensitive and meticulous practice encompasses painting, drawing and three dimensional forms. Her works embody a rigorous but personal investigation of geological sites and natural phenomena. Carefully balancing geometric patterns, colour and tonal layers, she creates compositions rich with movement and luminosity, which capture the energy and light of her subject matter. The underlying power of Groves' work lies in its ability to permeate the senses and minds of the viewer, conjuring vivid memories of the physical experience of place.
Groves has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and abroad. Selected group exhibitions include: Pattern, Glen Eira City Council Gallery, Melbourne, 2013; Co-variance, Counihan Gallery, Melbourne, 2013; NEW: Selected recent acquisitions, UQ Art Museum, University of Queensland, Brisbane, 2012; Symphonic Encounters, Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, 2013; The Ron & George Adams Collection, MOP Gallery, Sydney 2011; P.O.W.
