JENNIFER GUIDI

Early Years

Jennifer Guidi was born in Redondo Beach, California, in 1972 and grew up in Southern California. She earned a BFA from Boston University and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1998. Guidi initially trained as a figurative painter, but after moving back to Los Angeles, her practice shifted toward abstraction, heavily influenced by the Californian landscape, the physical qualities of materials, and a deepening interest in metaphysical traditions.

Now based in Los Angeles, Guidi’s work continues to draw from the region’s geological, celestial, and spiritual dimensions. Her paintings often incorporate sand, a material emblematic of the California desert and coastline, creating tactile surfaces that evoke both the immediacy of the natural world and the timelessness of ritual mark-making.

Textural Landscapes

Around 2012, Jennifer Guidi began integrating sand into her paintings, carving concentric, mandala-like formations with wooden dowels across layered pigments. These surfaces mirror the patterns found in desert topographies, Tibetan sand mandalas, and seismic diagrams. In works like Radiant Earth Project (Red Vibrations, Inner Eye) (2016), the rhythm of each mark echoes a meditative breathing cycle. Her method balances physical labour with spiritual discipline, creating artworks that feel at once geological and transcendental. Guidi transforms canvas into terrain—earthly and sacred.

Colour and Energy

Guidi’s colour palettes are carefully calibrated to evoke emotional states and environmental atmospheres, shifting from celestial gradients to volcanic earth tones. In her The Weather Inside series (2017), she harnessed fields of vivid pinks, reds, and electric blues to conjure both internal psychological climates and cosmic energy flows. These works pulse with vibration, intensity, and dynamism. Each colour is applied intuitively but with methodical structure, creating a chromatic rhythm that suggests sunrise, sunset, or planetary movement. The interplay of colour and repetition produces a quiet, immersive power.

Spiritual Abstraction

Jennifer Guidi’s work occupies the space where abstraction meets inner consciousness. Her Signposts for Tomorrow series (2020) deepens her inquiry into metaphysical experience, integrating sacred geometries, intuitive symmetries, and subtle vibrational fields. These paintings reflect the artist’s interest in Eastern philosophies and energetic healing practices, inviting the viewer into a space of contemplation. Although formally minimal, the dense, textured surfaces are filled with intention and presence. Each gesture becomes a meditative act—Guidi’s spiritual abstraction reveals how painting can be both a visual form and a transformative process.
