Jovial Yeung 楊碧琪 is a young mixed-media and glass artist. She lives and works in Hong Kong.
Jovial Yeung obtained her B.A. in Visual Arts with Honours in 2012 from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University. The same year, she was awarded the Warm Glass UK Glass Prize (Students) in United Kingdom and the MDD Award in Hong Kong, and her work was exhibited in a total of nine shows in Hong Kong and in Japan.
In 2013, her installation Revenge and her sculptures were presented at AHAF Hong Kong, she received a commission to create a new art piece, and she participated in Things Happen for a Reason, a group show co-presented by Mur Nomade and Koru Contemporary Art in Hong Kong.
Jovial Yeung has just received a travel grant and will go to France this summer to conduct researches in preparation of her new series of works, which will be exhibited in Hong Kong in October.
Jovial Yeung has a passion for experimentation with materials. Her strong knowledge of studio glass art techniques, combined with her experience in metalsmithing and antiques restoration, result in unique mixed media artworks. Jovial Yeung keeps pushing and exploring the properties of glass in her pursuit of expressing emotions through art. Her artworks are fine and delicate, yet they carry deep and heavy messages. As she puts it, her artworks require: ‘A pair of nimble hands and a sensitive mind’.
