Kerry Ann Lee Biography

Kerry Ann Lee's practices explores the cultural intersections, specifically of her own Cantonese heritage and their diasporic settlement of the Asia Pacific region during the 19th century. Exploring moments of public and private identity, Lee uses her background in graphic arts to investigate hybrid cultural forms through highly detailed, handmade illustrations.

Lee has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Asia New Zealand Emerging Researcher Award, 2007, and the Fullbright Award in 2009. In 2010 she was the artist-in-residence at Visible Cities in Melbourne. Her work has been described as 'both expressive and socially engaged by playful... investigation.'

Kerry Ann Lee is currently based in Dunedin, working as a senior lecturer and researcher at Otago Polytechnic School of Design. In April 2012 she was the inaugural Asia New Zealand/CNZ artist-in-residence to Taiwan.

Lee’s artwork can be found in public and private collections throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe, US and China.
