Poon Chun-wah was born in Guangzhou, China in 1936. He received his professional degree in architecture at the Guangdong University of Technology and then settled in Hong Kong in 1959. He learned photography, print-making and oil painting from 1961 to 1971. By good fortune, Poon studied Chinese ink painting under Lui Shou-kwan at the Extra Mural Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has actively participated in different art exhibitions in Hong Kong and overseas. He has consistently been featured in the Hong Kong Biennial Art Exhibitions, to date ten times, and was awarded the Urban Council Fine Arts Award of Hong Kong.Presently Poon is an executive member of the Hong Kong Artist Association and has had works collected by many organizations, such as Hong Kong Museum of Art, and Art Museum of Hong Kong University, to name a few.
