The colours in his paintings express his philosophy of life- white represents birth, black represents death and red is the symbol of energy, power and human rituals.

He has garnered several awards such from the Indian Society of Oriental Art (1996), Reflection of Another Day (1996), Bulbarga Tamil Sangam (1995).
Rathin Kanji completed his art training in B.F.A.-Painting at M.M.K College of Visual Art, Gulbarga University, Karnataka, India. In 1996 he was invited to be a life member at the BombayArt Society, Mumbai and a Member (Jt. Secretary) at RAD Calcutta. Just a year before that, in 1995 he was also a founding member at Figment, Calcutta.
