Susan Derges was born in 1955, London, and studied painting in Chelsea Art School and Slade Art School, and researched and taught photography in Tsukuba (Japan), Exeter (UK), and Oakland (California). Since 1992, she lives and works on the south western part of the UK, in Devon. Her main solo exhibitions were held at The Photographer’s Gallery, Hue Williams Fine Art, Purdy Higgs Gallery, Oxford Natural History Museum, Danziger Gallery of New York, Frankel Gallery of San Francisco, Musée de l’Elysée of Lausanne, and the Nishino Contemporary Art of Tokyo and Paris, Her work is currently in the possession of Victoria and Albert Museum of London, the British Art Council, New York Metropolitan Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Chicago Art Institute, and the Tokyo Hara Art Museum.
