Taisuke Toya Biography

Born in 1998, Nagano Prefecture, Japan

Working with sculpture, textiles, and installation, Toya explores shifting spatial perception. His recent works include “joy” (2024), inspired by C.S. Lewis’ mythical concepts, and “hibari” (2025), a formalistic installation based on repetition and symmetry. His practice examines the anonymous urban landscapes of suburban Japan and the internal experiences they evoke.

Artist Statement :

Having interest in the spaces and spatiality created by humans, I seek to materialize “things that are here but not here” in the “here / now,” aiming to cultivate a critical sensibility toward the pre-established world and to claim a personal, unique spatial experience. Through interventions in spaces where one perception inadvertently leads to the recognition of the existence of other worlds, I attempt to explore the parallel existence of multiple “selves” within the same space, and to experience entities that are not physically present as tangible matters.
