About Victoria and Albert Museum
The Victoria and Albert Museum is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design. It was founded by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1852, as both were keen patrons of the arts. The museum’s collection spans over 5,000 years of art and has been divided into four departments: Asia; Furniture, Textiles and Fashion; Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics & Glass and Word & Image. The museum has 145 exhibition galleries, but due to the vastness of the collection, only a small percentage is even on public display.

As the museum is sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, entrance to the main collection exhibits is free. Furthermore, the museum regularly hosts a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions featuring historical and contemporary arts.
