Some of the world's leading art galleries will participate in the first ARTO21 HONG KONG later this month.
While Gagosian and Hauser & Wirth are missing, Pace Gallery and White Cube will be there. While they won't have a booth, David Zwirner will lend a Marcel Dzama painting for a special presentation.
Leading Chinese galleries ShanghART, Tang Contemporary Art, and A Thousand Plateaus Art Space are also showing.
The fair, which takes its name from the Shanghai calling code, is blazing a new trail by expanding outside mainland China.
David Chau, co-founder of ART021 Group, said 'ART021 HONG KONG signifies the first mainland China art fair brand to enter the Hong Kong market, which we hope brings new energy to the arts ecosystem in return.'
'With the rapidly evolving global art market today, we are committed to seizing opportunities for breakthroughs and innovations, attracting more collectors and new audiences, and becoming a bridge between communities and regions,' he said.
The main section of the fair will feature 40 booths at Phillips Asia Headquarters in the WKCDA Tower. Video works will show at Asia Society, conceptual projects will show at the Fringe Club, and sculptures will appear in Victoria Park.
The fair will also initiate GBA ART WEEK, promoting activities by art galleries and institutions across the Greater Bay Area, which includes Hong Kong, Macau and cities in the south of China such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou. —[O]
