The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) today announced the artists in the next Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, which opens on 30 November 2024.

They include Saudi Arabia’s Dana Awartani, Aotearoa New Zealand’s Brett Graham, Thailand’s Mit Jai Inn, and Singapore-born Dawn Ng.

Over 500 artworks will be exhibited including new commissions by artists such as Jasmine Togo-Brisby, Kawita Vatanajyankur, and Mai Nguyễn-Long.

The Triennial will include four co-curated projects highlighting contemporary art from regions in Nepal, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said in a statement that the curatorial team, led by Tarun Nagesh, had ‘shown an unrelenting commitment to on-the ground, in-country research in order to select artists who reflect a diverse and authentic cross-section of the region’s artistic production.’

Nagesh said, ‘artists in the exhibition consider knowledge in its many forms, following thematic threads such as care for natural and urban environments, intergenerational experiences of migration and labour, and nuanced approaches to storytelling, materials and technique.’

The full list of participating artists can be viewed on QAGOMA’s blog.

An exhibition of works QAGOMA acquired through the Triennial will open at London’s V&A Museum in early 2026. —[O]
