White Cube will open a new 300-square-metre space in Seoul, Korea, later this year.
The location will be led by White Cube's Korean Representative and Director Jini Yang, who has been with the gallery since 2018.
'The Korean art scene is characterised by deep connections with both the local and the global', Yang said. 'I look forward to deepening White Cube's connections with the local art community and contributing to Korea's growing ecosystem.'
The Seoul gallery, situated in the heart of Gangnam district, will share a striking, ceramic-encased building with the Horim Art Centre, a private museum that houses a collection of Korean modern art and antiquities.
Established in 1993, White Cube has spaces in London's Bermondsey Street and Mason's Yard. They expanded to Asia with the launch of a Hong Kong space in 2012, and opened in Paris in 2020.
In 2022, the gallery launched a seasonal space in West Palm Beach, and they will open a new gallery on New York's Upper East Side in autumn 2023.
White Cube Seoul is yet to announce their opening exhibition, but with a knock-out Anselm Kiefer show now on in London, the bar will be high. —[O]
