New York-based Cheim & Read have brought together an extensive presentation of acrylic paintings by the incredibly talented late Matthew Wong.
All painted in 2016 during a three-month stay in Los Angeles, these lyrical evocations exemplify all that Wong was celebrated for—distilling lucid, vibrant, and tangibly emotive mark-making into a single frame.
A beautiful oil painting by Wong titled The Night Watcher (2018), featuring a lone figure standing in a pointillist landscape beneath an orange sun, will be sold at Sotheby’s The Now Evening auction on 19 May in New York, with an estimate of 1,500,000 - 2,000,000 USD.
