Fifteen of Park Seo-Bo‘s paintings from the later phase of his best-known ‘Ecriture’ series (from 2000 onwards) are on show at Tokyo Gallery+BTAP.
This heralded series—formed by repeatedly drawing lines onto canvas, before painting over those lines and redrawing them—transitioned from neutral hues to tactile and colourful canvases over the years.
We covered this evolution a few months back, following his earlier pencil-incised lines into wet canvases to the incorporation of vibrant colours inspired by a visit to Fukushima in 2000, as well as his incorporation of hanji, a form of traditional Korean paper made of mulberry tree bark.
