STATION to Present Australian Artists at Frieze Seoul
By STATION – 22 August 2025, Seoul

For their third invitation to Frieze Seoul, STATION will present a dual exhibition of works by contemporary artists Del Kathryn Barton and Tomislav Nikolic

Both artists convey the spirit and potency of painting through widely different technical approaches to line, colour, and composition. Tomislav Nikolic’s geometric abstract paintings convey the essence and potency of colour. His works reference art history and personal anecdotes, distilled into rich colour fields that are meticulously rendered through a multitude of paint layers. Employing the artist’s technique for combining marble dust with pigments, Nikolic’s colour field paintings have a reflective element that enables the viewer to partake in their radiance. Similarly, Del Kathryn Barton’s practice is self-referential, exploring notions of femininity, folklore, and the cosmos. Her hyper-detailed paintings combine traditional painting techniques with contemporary design principles to create a cacophony of imagery.

Nikolic was awarded the Bulgari Art Award in 2017 and is represented in international collections including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia; Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand; and The Obayashi Collection, Japan. Barton is a two-time Archibald Prize winner represented in major public collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. A new publication on Barton is due to be published in September 2025 with essays from Laura Raicovich, Daniel Browning, Ulanda Blair, and Alexie Glass-Kantor.

Established in 2011 in Melbourne, Australia, STATION is a key player in the Asia-Pacific contemporary art scene, representing a broad stable of established and emerging Australian and international artists.
