A procession of things. Inanimate but rich in their tellurian grounding, lined up to observe repetition, similarities and differences in concept, scale and form; conversing with one another whilst equally being inward-looking. Situated in this procession, these things are activated, placed with a feeling of movement, alluding to a happening — an event. Here in this state of procession we follow suit, proceeding from thing to thing, approaching each from a common grounding but with alien assumptions — like tentatively walking into a cold ocean.
Things are not objects; they seemingly live in a space of activity, of power within themselves, while objects tend to be more practical. This term places them in a space of more capability, of influence, in a state allowing for interpretation and gentle obscurity. Like the 2023 Melbourne exhibition, Threshold of things, this presentation in Sydney continues to allude to this notion of artworks as “things”, in this iteration partaking in a procession of captivating and contemplative works traversing the gallery space.
