You Are Loved by the World is an exhibition of Rao’s latest works in the past two years, the theme of which not only includes the emotional communication he wishes to establish with all the audience, but also his understanding of life. In recent years, the world has not been a peaceful place, with visible conflicts and contradictions in various fields, people are often surrounded by anxieties and doubts about the human world. And Rao has his own understanding of this situation. In his works, there are often people who are alone, or who quietly face each other with animals or partners. The painterly images imply that everyone has a quiet corner in the mind, where the most natural and initial emotions are kept. This emotion is usually hidden, to be contradicted, felt, and discovered in contemplation.

Rao’s works display a mature and natural brushwork, as well as delicate and unobtrusive techniques. He uses deep and simple colours to create introspective and quiet atmospheres. The images are often surreal, but they are presented in a matter-of-fact, undramatic way, like an unflinching monologue, which has no persuasive power, but allows instead one to empathise with the situation and enter a meditative field. The Thousand Plateaus Art Space invites the audience to experience Rao Weiyi’s journey into the world of the mind.
