Press Release

After the successful exhibition Herbert Beck meets Emil Nolde: Inspiration and Realization at the Olaf Gulbransson Museum in summer / autumn 2018, Beck & Eggeling presents a specially selected selection of this museum exhibition in Vienna.

Meeting the great expressionist Emil Nolde in 1952 in Hamburg was an inspiring key event for Herbert Beck’s artistic career. ‘Achieving Nolde’s glowing colour was the goal of countless studies,’ Beck wrote later. In the exhibition, the juxtaposition of two masters of watercolour painting demonstrates the unsurpassed mastery of Emil Nolde, as well as Beck’s continuation of expressive painting opening up new possibilities in composition and content. Both artists were always committed to the object, and the conviction and maxim to seek the highest possible expression in their paintings was the main focus of their artistic work.
