Press Release

James Springer and James Lewis were identical twins who went their separate ways as infants through adoption before reuniting at age 39. Each grew up with a brother named Larry, had a pet dog named Toy, went into law enforcement, and named his first-born son James Allan. Each twin married a woman named Linda before following with a second wife named Betty. Both settled on the same vacation spot at a small beach in St. Petersburg, Florida, more than 1,000 miles away from where they were separately reared in Ohio.

A prominent figure of the American ‘Pictures’ generation, Sherrie Levine is best known for her reproductions of work by Modern photographers, such as Walker Evans and Edward Weston. Working across photography, paint, and sculpture, her conceptually driven appropriations of iconic 20th-century art critique the codes of representation in the Western art historical canon.
