Anna Finlayson is a Melbourne based artist who, over the last 20 years has worked with sculpture, installation, painting and drawing. Anna has exhibited in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and in France. for the last 5 years Anna has lived much of the year in regional France, but has continued to exhibit regularly in Australia.
The greater part of her work is site specific installation/sculpture. Ephemeral forms imposed/created within a space, relating to and relying on the architecture of a specific space. Often fabricated using pre-existing objects (eg. plastic balls or eelectrical cable) these works can be translated or transformed into similar works in different environments or revived with slightly different form and/or slightly different intention in other locations.
Over the last 6 years drawing has become an important part of her practice. It is with works on paper that Finnlayson explores textures and patterns and play with optical and visual illusions. Much of her recent drawing is greatly influenced by her early studies as a textile designer, as repetition and graphic motifs are often used.
