Aziza is a London-based Uzbek multidisciplinary artist working across textiles, sculpture, new technologies, experimental costume and performance practices.
Her artistic approach is characterised by a fusion of collaboration and interdisciplinary methodologies that drive the creation of both physical and digital immersive experiences. Central to Aziza’s practice is a deep-seated interest in participatory practices within local communities. This interest has led her to co-found Qizlar, a self-organised grassroots collective firmly grounded in principles of interdisciplinarity and intersectionality, as well as enacting social change.
In her projects, she explores a diverse array of themes, including migration, displacement, social invisibility, identity, decolonisation, feminism, and loss of language. These themes serve as focal points for her work, each offering a lens through which she examines societal dynamics and experiences of women within Central Asia and diaspora.
Aziza is intrigued by the potential of XR/AR/VR and AI technologies to enrich artistic research, edutainment, and socially engaged practices. She seek to understand and harness the capabilities of these tools to facilitate deeper engagement and interaction within artistic, activist and cultural contexts.
In parallel, Aziza dedicate myself to researching and experimenting with innovative ways of interacting with cultural heritage, particularly textiles and costume – media that have been traditionally labelled as ‘feminine’. Leveraging the latest technological advancements to reimagine traditional narratives and practices, She transform them to be more relevant to our contemporary experiences, and engage in a process of alternative mythmaking.
