Bob Dylan is one of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century. Over the last 48 years he has released over 45 albums and written over 500 songs including Blowing in the Wind, All Along the Watchtower, Knocking on Heaven’s Door and countless others. Selling over 110 million records around the world, his songs have been covered by more than 3,000 artists from Duke Ellington to The Rolling Stones, from Guns N’ Roses to Stevie Wonder. His artistic achievements have been recognized throughout the world.
His accolades include Honorary Doctorates from Princeton and St. Andrews University, France’s Commandeur des Artes et Lettres, The Kennedy Center Honor, The National Medal of Arts, Spain’s Prince of Asturias Award, numerous Grammy Awards, A Golden Globe and Academy Award. His most recent album, Together Through Life (2009) entered the charts at number one in America as well as many countries around the world. Although Bob Dylan is best known as a singer and songwriter, he is also an author, film director, actor, radio broadcaster and visual artist. His experimental collection of writings, Tarantula, was published in 1970 and his memoirs, Chronicles: Volume One - released in 2004 - became an international bestseller spending 19 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List.
A committed visual artist, Bob Dylan has only recently begun to exhibit his works publicly. Firstly, a collection of multi-media watercolors and gouaches, The Drawn Blank Series, was exhibited in Germany’s Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz in autumn 2007. His works on acrylic and canvas, The Brazil Series, were on exhibit at The National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen in 2010–11.
In 2008 Bob Dylan received a special Pulitzer Prize Citation, for his “profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.”
