Carl Andre (b. 1935, Quincy, MA, USA) is one of key figures of minimalism. He is widely recognised for his grid-based floor sculptures, outdoor public works and concrete poetry. Throughout his work, he seeks to eliminate anything decorative or extraneous. As a sculptor, he neither carves nor models but simply focuses on sorting and placing. His work came to redefine the very nature of sculpture for many younger artists. Carl Andre lives and works in New York, NY.
