Douglas White graduated from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art (2000) and the Royal College of Art in London (2005). His work has been exhibited in United Kingdom but also in Europe, United States and South America. His work is part of many collections: David Roberts Art Foundation, Saatchi Collection, Frank Cohen, Cass Sculpture Foundation...
Known for his evocative use of found objects and materials, he culls the detritus of our society to transform them, compulsively, into uncanny, often monumental sculptures. Driven by a fascination with discarded and overlooked materials and “finding something magical within everyday”; his practice is intuitive. He assembles elements as diverse as blown-out truck tyres, half-decayed cactus.
The materials are often subject to violent transformations, revealing inner or unexpected surfaces, structures.
