Hera Büyüktaşçıyan is a Turkish artist based in Istanbul, her work focusses on the notion of the ‘other’ and concepts of absence and invisibility, identity, memory, space and time. By using metaphors from local myths, historic and iconographic elements, she opens a new narrative scope for the ‘other’. In her recent work she has been questioning the meaning of ‘absence’ within the collective memory and addressing urban transformation, which causes total disappearance, destruction, isolation and otherness within the framework of communities, history, time, space and memory.
Hera graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty Painting department in 2006. She has since participated in various residency programmes: ACSL (2011,Yerevan), PiST///Interdisciplinary Project Space (2012, İstanbul), AIR DROP (2012, Stockholm) and Villa Waldberta (2012-13, Munich).
Hera has participated in several exhibitions including: Scan Istanbul (2003, İstanbul), Going Public’ 06 (2006, Milan), The Other (2007, PiST///7-24), Changeables & Transformables (2009, İstanbul), Lives and works in İstanbul (İstanbul, 2010), art.homes (2010, Munich-İstanbul), Worthy Hearts (2011, Yerevan), The Afternoon Odyssey (2012, SALT), Looking for Somewhere to Land (2012,Stockholm), Reflecting on Reflection (2012,Galeri Mana), BLUR (2012, Munich), Envy, Enmity, Embarrasement (2013, ARTER), INSITU (2013, PiST///), Unhappy Ready Made (2014,KUAD), and The Land Across the Blind (2014, Galeri Mana).
