Jacob Ogden Smith’s recent work explores the operation and location of pottery practice within mainstream society. It seeks to do so in a way that is reflective of ceramics’ historical role and the manner in which it is now depicted and viewed within popular culture. A specific focus is placed on its representation within contemporary mediums, exploring ceramic ‘cameos’ in film, television and internet culture and reenacting narratives of creation, use and mythology. His work is represented in numerous private collections, and in the collection of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
