JACQUES VERDUYN
Born 1946 in Bruges, Jacques Verduyn studied visual arts in Ghent and at the Academy of Bruges and Alost. He is a professor of sculpture in Ghent. In 1972, he made his first sculptures cast on women’s bodies. Having previously made smooth-looking sculptures, he currently creates “living” models, whose complexions executed in resin are amazingly close to human esh. Jacques Verduyn is the only Belgian sculptor working in the hyperrealist vein. He is often referred to as “the Belgian Duane Hanson”.
In 1973, he participated in the historic exhibition at Isy Brachot, the first gallery to show American andEuropean Pop art in Brussels. In 1974, he won the Prix de la Sculpture Occidentale de la Province des Flandres.
His work crystallises moments of relaxation that escape our notice because they are too familiar, capturing visions of simple, happy moments culled from the gestures of daily life. Its success stems from rediscovering the charms of life’s familiar moments.
