Jošt Franko Biography

Jošt Franko is a photographer born in Slovenia in 1993. His work is mostly focused on long-term projects exploring domestic and international social issues, and his themes often examine the relationship between man and land in the modern world.

Franko began visually exploring societal issues while still a student, and created photo-essays that were published by numerous outlets such as TIME, The New Yorker, The Nation, Al Jazeera America, Newsweek, Newsweek Japan, Days Japan, MO* (Mondiaal Nieuws) Magazine, MSNBC, Washington Post, Le Monde, Neue Zurcher Zeitung, La Repubblica and others. His work was exhibited in London, New York City, Tel Aviv, Lisbon, and Ljubljana.

By the age of 16, Franko won the Slovenia Press Photo reportage of the year award and later on joined VII Photo Agency’s Mentor Program, as the youngest member ever to be affiliated with VII. His work was also honored by TED Fellowship and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
