NAOTO KAWAHARA
b. 1971, JapanNaoto Kawahara (Tokyo, 1971) is an artist based in Tokyo. After graduating industrial design school, Kawahara studied at the Lorenzo de Medici Institute in Florence for four years. He has been creating paintings that reinterpret scenes extracted from classic masterpieces by artists such as Dürer, Balthus, Rembrandt and Munch. Through such ‘re-envisioned paintings’, Kawahara pursues the theme of reflecting on archetypes of images valid today through old masters’ themes.
